Manage Your Cravings and Lose Weight

When on a diet, it’s especially common to want what we can’t have.  Cravings are common, and sometimes feel so strong that there’s no way to resist temptation and we go off our diets.  The guilt from giving in keeps us from continuing with our weight loss effort, and we give up, determined that we can never be successful.  But those who do lose weight and keep it off are not immune to food cravings; they just know how to manage them better.  Learning more about what cravings really are could be the first step in mastery over them.

Enjoy What You Eat and Lose Weight

Diets tend to focus on what you can’t have: no donuts, no pasta with heavy cream sauce, and no cheesecake.  But what if you viewed your diet as focusing on what you need to add instead of what you need to take away?  Also known as positive eating, this method of watching what you eat takes the focus off of deprivation and instead directs you to enjoy whatever you eat.  Gone is the idea that microwavable meals in a cardboard box that leave you feeling hungry is what you need for portion control.  Positive eating is all about enjoyment and fulfillment.

Eat Like a Cretan And Lose Weight

There is a small island in the Aegean Sea that has the lowest death rate from cancer and heart disease, with good reason.  The island of Crete is known for its abundance of fresh food and big meals.  And though Cretans eat three times the amount of bread as the average American, it is freshly baked from whole grains and doesn’t contain the additives or preservatives that are found in bread on grocery store shelves.
